IN20-125 Construction of a Mobile Oil Palm Frond Chopper

Abstract

        A Mobile Oil Palm Frond Chopper was designed and built to destroy the oil palm frond in the garden to reduce transportation problems of the oil palm frond. The important components of the machine consist of machine structure, 13 horsepower engine, transmission system, 4 chopping blades, and moving wheels. From the performance test of the machine under variable speed of the chopper blade at 600, 800, 1,000, and 1200 rpm, the test results showed that the rotation speed of the cutting disk directly affects the optimization of the machine work and the size of the oil palm frond obtained from the test decreased when the cutting speed of the cutting disk increased. With a speed of 1,000 rounds per minute, can mince the oil palm frond with a maximum of 4,150 grams per minute and an average size of scraps oil palm frond is 2.3 centimeters.

The wood-chopper in this research is designed for small-scale agriculturists without heavy machinery.Because most of the chippers are characteristics types that mounted with a tractor but most of them are used in large-scale palm plantations or large-scale agriculturisists  due to the relatively high price and must be used with a tractor.Therefore, the wood-chopper in this research is the most answer to the small-scale agriculturists as the cost of the machine is not very hogh(10,000-15,000 bath).
