IN20-134 Factors Related to Elderly Independency Activity Daily Living

Abstract

           The problem of the elderly population which is quite high poses its own challenges with the emergence of new problems. Physical, mental and social changes will affect the independence of the elderly. The aim of the research knows factors related to the independence of the elderly in activities daily living. This research was conducted using an explanatory research method using cross sectional study. Population of this study was 3,779 elderly who aged more than 60 years old. Sampling is done by simple random sampling and got 108 elderlies in Puskesmas Pegandan,Semarang. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire and Activity Daily Living (ADL) questions. Data analysis used rank spearman test and chi square test for bivariate analysis. Linier regression test uses for multivariate analysis. The results showed that there was a relationship between age variables (p-value = 0.0001), gender (p-value = 0.001), physical condition (p-value = 0.017), mental condition (p-value = 0.03) and social activities (p-value = 0.000) with the independence of the elderly. Variable of age (p-value = 0.0001), physical condition (p-value = 0.005), and social activities (p-value = 0.0001) related to the independence of the elderly. Routine and regular checkups are needed to reduce complaints in the elderly so they don't decrease.

1. the physical condition was the most important, in case of active daily living. this was due to the ADL questionnaire items are mostly related to the physical activity rather than social or psycological.

2. Based on this study, it would be interesting to measure physical, psycological and social condition of senior cityzen.
