Intercultural competence has been widely accepted as an important goal of foreign language education in the 21st century. In this presentation, the speaker first introduces updated theoretical frameworks of intercultural foreign language teaching, and then explains what is intercultural competence in FLT and how to implement intercultural teaching in foreign language classrooms. In the final section of the presentation, the speaker shares intercultural teaching resources developed by the Intercultural Institute of Shanghai International Studies University, including the FutureLearn MOOC Intercultural Communication, the college English textbook series Intercultural communication: an Integrated English Course and the Intercultural Competence Contest for College Students.
