Abstract

The objective of this study is to study physical characteristics and suggest guidelines for the development of conservation, restoration of architecture for sustainable tourism of tobacco curing plants in Chaisathan Sub-district, Mueang District, Nan Province. Which leads to the planning and design of the architecture and conservation. With the objective of promoting a sustainable ecotourism area. Which the original 44 tobacco building. Although not in use for a long time, it is still in repairable condition though some parts have deteriorated and cannot be used.  Guidelines for preserving and restoring architecture must take the number of possible tourists visiting into the account, focus on restoring the culture and ways of community that fade back.  At the same time maintain the architectural style of the tobacco curing plant. The method of this research is to integrate social conditions with physical characteristics by collecting primary data from surveys at the actual area to record physical data of the general environment within the tobacco curing area, such as taking images of buildings, surrounding environment of the area and discussions with owners of tobacco curing businesses including the study of Nan's development plan and community to be analyzed by using design theory and planning as the guidelines for conservation development applied to the layout design of this project area. The result of the research suggests the basic community design divide into 3 parts.  The first part is a commercial area and a community market. The second part is a learning area for cultural education. The way of the tobacco curing plant and the last part is a resort type accommodation for tourists, by renovating the old building to create a new usable area. To create activities for tourists and people in the community, designing a new traffic route. Designing spaces and landscape architecture conservation and repair the buildings. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Thank you for the interesting presentation. I have a question:

- How does the architecture of the tobacco leaf incubator look like? And how do you use it to design the new buildings on the master plan?

Nichanun Yoksanguan (Presenter)

I'm so grateful for your interesting  and the question you asked is the principle of this study becauseThe objective of this research is to study physical characteristics and suggest guidelines for the development of conservation and restoration of architecture

First of all, I'll show the results of our surveying , we found that the structure, form and space of the tobacco leaf incubator building  is square shape in the size of 6.55 × 6.35 meters and approximate 8-9 meters height. This volume of space is a factor to be considered in determining the suitable for function usage of each building and the utility within, and because of the conservative architectural development restoration concept  for sustainable tourism .We're finding the Balance, by conserve and restore which have to cover physical, environmental, social, cultural, and economic harmony . We designed interior architecture for each fuction in the constrain of physical  to look alike the  existing architecture that used to be the main income-generating community in the past in Nan Province to be a tourist and leisure area by conservation Culture activities ,local products and architecture. Finally, the master plan of design suggestion shows  group of function zone  of each building that renovated  for tourism and suitable for the project goals. So,you can read the proceeding  for more details, thank you

Hi Hope ,thank you for your interesting and have a good question . In my opinion about the effects of this  development  to people in chaisathan sub-district . Accually, I think when this project is getting started ,there will be the people participation in various  activities, that make their  cultural identity  , local products and services  public , that will stimulate  the community economy at last. So I guess it's good for them .However ,  The developer ought to be careful of  the tourism business have an affect on the physical environment too  .

Hello Arjarn Punnarat, thanks for your interesting  and have a useful question.

The procedure of this project is the key of the study , as follwing

1 ) the collecting secondary  datas of history and cultural identity as wellas social ,economy and environment of target area  before  researher team started site sureying

2.)The analysis of integrated  design aimed  to sustanable tourism goal that was the  main concept of the study .So we had  focus not only architectural design but also business model and investment including the social participation of the community.

3.)The results had shown suggestion of architectural design guide line that related to socio-cultural and investment

So I think no matter where the location  is , this research methodology still works.
