Presenter: Thanapa Kayankit
Rangsit University, Thailand

Abstract

Learning and teaching strategies of the Academic Studio Plus group, Faculty of Architecture Rangsit University focuses on the teaching and learning integration of academic service projects through project-based learning management. This method has the students to concentrate the opportunity to develop various skills that are necessary for the practice of architecture. This article targets to present the process of integrating academic services with teaching and learning of architectural design courses that are based on real projects. The method began with the building plan designation, this case study, which is the equine therapy resort in Toong-Luang Community, Tak. Then, conducted a survey and record the data of the project location together with the study of the needs from the project owners. Next, brought the data to analyze and synthesize into creative work pieces according to the architectural design process. The results showed that the method of teaching and learning architecture through project-based learning management could train students to practice architecture profession in various aspects by themselves at every step. The evaluation by the concerned parties concluded that the academic services offered by the students were interesting and able to meet the objectives of the project owners. However, the students must consider the feasibility of investment and suitable construction techniques as well. Therefore, this type of teaching and learning process could develop knowledge, skills and professional experience of learners in accordance with the needs of entrepreneurs. The recommendations received can be used to develop methods for managing teaching and learning architecture appropriately.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Dear Author, according to the leaning method that It had a good feedback from external stakeholders, so my question is what are the feedback from students who have experienced this learning methods?

Thirachat Uttamavetin (Visitor)

Thank for your question.

About the feedback from Students're an excellent learning. they love to finding and learning from real project which integrated between real rerquiment of owner and local materials. They also combide design theory with local knowledge thru thier project. In my opionion, this methodology can be apply to the student who need to study in depth of thier profession.

Is an interesting method of teaching and learning.

I would like to know if the project owner can actually use student work or not. Or have to forward it to the designer to improve for real construction?

parisa musigakama (Visitor)

The student presentation is reporting her educational results in the design project. To call this presentation as a research report following the title, the presentation should focus more on the concrete comparative study between the participatory project-based learning method with traditional teaching methods, and its results. I raise this question without seeing the full report. If it has been explained, I apologize here.

Thanapa Kayankit (Presenter)

Dear, Monchai

Thanks for your question.

Yes. Because the student group need to develop to final construction drawings, and it can be use for construction process.

Thanapa Kayankit (Presenter)

Dear, Parisa

Thank you for your question.

I apologize for the unclear presentation. However, if you interested more information about project based learning method, and it's result of this report. You can see at the full paper. I hope it can be clear more about your question.

It' s quite a huge project with many functions and activities. So how did the presenter come up with the combination of activities? Each of them was needed really? And from the design point of view, what does the client think about the architectural style proposed here, even though they were proposed with same major material "bamboo" but they still hold different language?

Thanapa Kayankit (Presenter)

Thank you for your questions Aj'Nun

For the question about the needed of the activities. So, the combination of activities are coming from close coraboration between the client and students and analysis them together with professional architectects.

Finally, the diversity concept of aerchitecture're also came from the client too. He need different style of architectures which came from different concept of design. However, all of the building might be design by using Bamboo components. So that why as you can see the different style from the presentation.
